“An Intensive, Hands-on Introduction to Advanced Manufacturing”

Entry-level jobs in advanced manufacturing require levels of skills and knowledge that are nearly unparalleled in the other trades and industries. New hires are expected to recall and retain large amounts of job-specific techniques and data and are called upon to make split-second decisions that can determine the welfare of expensive and often delicate equipment. Training for this type of work environment must be immediate, consistent and intense but also allow for mistakes and learning in a supportive educational environment.

The “CNC Boot Camp” model has been developed to provide such an environment. Combining a strong academic/theoretical component with a “high-touch” experiential learning pedagogy, new hires will experience the pressures of high precision/high production manufacturing in a setting that is learner-centered rather than product-centered.

Please note: Due to unforeseen circumstances, this training, originally scheduled to take place over 80 hours from July 13 – 24 has been re-scheduled and condensed in its course content. It will now take place over 40 hours of combined instruction and lab time, Monday – Friday, August 17 – 21 and in its new location at the VTSU Randolph Center campus at The Manufacturing Collaborative, the state-of-the-art manufacturing labs. The labs house more than 35 manual and CNC machines including 5 – axis CNC mills and live tooling CNC lathes. These are the same labs that are used by both the VTSU Manufacturing Engineering Dept. and The Manufacturing Collaborative.  There may be use of a van, offering transportation to and from Randolph Center each day, originating in the greater Springfield area; if you are interested in traveling via this means, please mention this when inquiring about registration.  Training entities are working with several different organizations to seek grant funding to help offset the course cost or reimburse employers after employees demonstrate successful completion of the class.

Due to the limited hours of this course, college credit will not be offered at this time but may be added in the future.  The Certified Manufacturing Associate certification will be offered which was part of the original 80-hour Boot Camp.  Completion of the certification requirements will occur within 90 days of the start date of the class.
