VMEC News Release – VMEC and Generator Makerspace Team Up to Host Advanced Manufacturing Day, part of the nationwide MFG Day celebration

Randolph Center, Vermont – Launched in 2012 as a pilot program and now held annually on the first Friday in October with events that continue throughout the month and beyond, MFG Day – Manufacturing Day – is a national grassroots movement that demonstrates the reality and future of modern manufacturing careers. Thousands of companies and educational institutions nationwide are invited to open their doors to students, parents, educators and community leaders.  MFG Day empowers manufacturers to come together to address their collective challenges so they can help their communities and future generations thrive.

To celebrate the importance of Vermont manufacturing careers, VMEC and Burlington’s Generator Makerspace are teaming up to co-host Advanced Manufacturing Day – Can We Make It?”. The complimentary event will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 3:00 – 6:00 pm at Generator’s facility on Sears Lane in Burlington.

The event will offer multiple networking opportunities, a facility tour, demos, and a panel discussion/ Q&A with Vermont manufacturing leaders who will share their advice, knowledge and experience in the manufacturing world.  Also available will be a resource area where manufacturers are invited to bring their hard copy collateral materials and holders to showcase open positions their company is currently hiring for and/ or a company-specific brochure or flyer that’s focused on the company product/ service.

A cash bar tended by Queen City Brewery, an alcohol-free bar service tended by tonique and light hors d’oeuvres will be available on-site.

Tinotenda Rutanhira, Executive Director, Business Development and Co-Founder of VT-Professionals of Color Network, will kick-off the agenda with a brief overview of VTPOC’s new program, Newcomer Nexus.

The panel, moderated by Kevin Chu, Executive Director, Vermont Futures Project, will speak about their Advanced Manufacturing journey as a strategic and competitive advantage, as well as address topics such as adapting to the rapid pace of technological change, partnering and collaborating across organizations, hiring and upskilling their current workforce and more.

The panel will include:

“VMEC is thrilled to be teaming up with Generator on this highly important “manufacturing holiday” as we like to think of it in the Vermont manufacturing world,” states VMEC Center Director and CEO Patrick Boyle. “Partnering with an awesome organization like Generator allows us to expand and deepen our mission of strengthening and empowering Vermont manufacturers both on national MFG Day and on a daily basis, all year long.”

Meg Hammond, Executive Director, Generator Makerspace, adds: “As a community makerspace, Generator is proud to offer programs at the intersection of art, entrepreneurism, and technology. Hosting an Advanced Manufacturing Day at Generator gives us a wonderful opportunity to bring our makers, manufacturers and educators together in one room to explore how we as a State can build our future. We’re thankful to work alongside the VMEC team to broaden our collaborative efforts.”

The event is free to attend, however, registration is required; please visit VMEC Training and Events for complete details and to register.
