Improving Interpersonal Skills and Outcomes with TWI Job Relations

VTSU Williston campus, Williston, 201 Lawrence Place, Room 402 • 8:00 - 10:30am each day • $850 pp with possible additional grant funding*

Join us to kick off your fall with Supervisory Skills training!  This five session workshop covers Training Within Industry (TWI) Job Relations (JR) and includes individual or small group coaching to immediately put your new skills to work for you every day!  This valuable training addresses one of the most challenging parts of a  job – establishing and maintaining good working relationships and solving problems when they arise.

This course, which will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, Sept. 22 – 24 and Tuesday & Wednesday, Sept. 29 & 30, builds the confidence and competence in leading and influencing others through change and meeting goals every day. For organizations, training and coaching leaders to use this proven, simple and repeatable TWI JR methodology allows them to:

  • Create an inclusive work environment where people of all levels contribute to their full potential
  • Build trust and collaboration needed for learning and continuous improvement
  • Have a consistent and coachable procedure for dealing with conflict
  • Increase the confidence of new and existing leaders to effectively build strong job relations and solve people issues that arise

The training was developed at Harvard University during World War II and has been adjusted to be used today with the fundamental premise that results are achieved through people.

What this opportunity will cover

There are two main components to the workshop:

  • Foundations for how to establish good relations with people (proactive)
  • A 4-step method for how to handle problems when they do arise (reactive)

More than half of the workshop time is spent on applied learning, using everyday experiences and situations. In addition to the instructor’s prepared case studies, each participant is invited and guided to offer a situation. Repetition of the pattern on real work experiences develops new pathways to get started.  Engagement with VMEC and your team provides the direction, coaching and encouragement to adopt the skills into your daily life.

Who should attend

  • Team leads, supervisors and managers at all levels
  • Trainers and mentors
  • Leaders and managers of projects and processes, e.g. Engineering, Quality, Customer Service, HR

You are encouraged to register with others in your organization; having multiple people from the same company increases the impact by using a common method or language to coach and support each other in the application process. This training includes follow-on coaching that you will schedule with the course instructor in small groups at your facility in order to increase your impact!

If you’re not yet convinced this is for you, ask yourself…

  • Am I considering leadership, new to leadership or an existing leader who could use a refresher or a more consistent approach?
  • Have I completed “Intro to Leading in Manufacturing” and wish to dive deeper into “Leading with Job Relations”?
  • Am I utilizing TWI JI (Job Instruction) for job training and its accompanying breakdown method? And if so, am I able to reach its fullest potential as well as execute the four-step method to obtain the interpersonal piece so things may proceed a little smoother?

An effective supervisor gets results through people; let us help you
achieve your best leadership success!
